Magic® Type B History

Type B was created in the Winter of 1995/1996 as a tournament type that could be run at the University of Illinois CCG Club's weekly meeting, that would appeal to both Type I and Type II players, and that would encourage deck variety.

With its limit 2 list and restricted list being determined by player voting, it has been the format of choice in over 100 tournaments since its creation, and has been featured in the Duelist.

The Type B format would not have been possible without the assistance of Jeff Brueggeman and the entire UofI CCG club.
